This is my A2 Media Studies blog which will act as portfolio for all my coursework. Here I will present theory and practical work as well as all the research, planning and evaluation that went into creating our Romance/Drama/Film Noir teaser trailer and its promotional package - a poster and a front page magazine cover. The Last Seduction - Neo Noir Analyis

The teaser Trailer begins with a womans voice over on the phone talking to a man (this could
be seen as subverting a major convention of teaser trailers known as the 'voice of god' - a deep mans
voice is usually used to dominate the audience.) this is seen through fast pace cuts to show their conversation and their facial expressions to the conversation in this scene.

The clip is suddenly cut to the presumed 'couple' being intimate, showing the audience that there will be romance in the film- romance is a common sub-genre that goes together with film noirs, most often including the femme fatale.

In most teaser trailers there are cuts between the shots as the aim is to quickly and efficiently sell the film to an audience without giving too much of the main plot and story line away. in this cut it shows a huge pile of cash, then the camera moves (tracks) to the couple who seem to be happy. In most film noir style films money can play a huge part in the plot as it is most often involved with gangsters, crime and wealth. This shows that this Neo-noir film have taken some of the traditional stylistic elements of noir and interpreted them in its own way.

The voice over of the woman continues. The trailer adds tension by creating quick pace shots of the woman running as the camera tracks her. shot / reverse shots of the male characters talking on the phone sound anxious. the authoritative role is subverted as the main character is the woman, who could also be interpreted as a modern version of the femme fatale, surrounded by men in the rest of the trailer.

The voice over becomes more seductive over some of the shots showing the audience a different side to this character, letting them know what she could be capable of. the voice over of a scared man saying 'shes here' is also subverting the role.
